What is the Octopus Energy Tariff?

This energy tariff is perfect for people who own electric vehicles, solar batteries or anyone who can move their electricity use outside of the 4pm – 7pm peak times.

With the Agile Octopus tariff you get daily regular updates and access to half-hourly energy prices connected to wholesale prices. So when wholesale prices decrease so will your bills. Plus if you can move your daily electricity usage outside peak hours you can save even more.

Shifting your electricity usage outside of peak times is easy with our Complete Packages. It works by your solar panels and solar battery allowing you to generate and store your own electricity and using this during peak times. Then during off peak times when prices are low on the Agile Octopus tariff you can purchase at the lower price and store this in your battery to be used at a later time.

For more information on the Octopus Tariff you can arrange a call back for one of our team members to explain this further or check out Octopus website for more information.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

A 25% deposit is required when you book your installation date. This deposit is registered with HIES to keep your money safe. Once you have paid your deposit you will get a copy of this for proof of deposit.

After your installation is complete we will request a final 75% payment from you. The job is registered with HIES to keep your money safe. Once you have paid your final payment you will get a copy of this for proof of payment.

How long will the whole process take?

We are working towards a 2 week turnaround time. However you don’t have to have your package installed within two weeks. You can pick an install date which works best for you.

What should I do before my installation?

  1. Reputable installer
    1. It is recommended that you find someone who is Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited to carry out your install, which we are, and someone who uses MCS-certified products , which we do.
  2. Start your enquiry process
    1. Enquire with us by filling out one of the forms on our website and one of our friendly team members will be in touch.
    2. If you would like more detailed information on the enquiry process and the installation please see our other FAQ (Installation process explained)
  3. Check planning permission and building warrants
    1. According to the Planning Portal for England and Wales the installation of solar panels and equipment on residential properties may be ‘permitted development’ with no need to apply to your Local Planning Authority for planning permission.
    2. However if your home is a listed building you will most likely require permission from your local authority.
    3. You can check your local planning department following these links to find out if your need planning permission or building warrants;
      1. Planning Portal – for England and Wales
      2. Scottish Government website – for Scotland
      3. Northern Ireland Planning Portal – for Northern Ireland
  4. Check your home insurance policy
    1. Check with your insurance provider to make sure your policy covers the changes you are about to make to your home. Most insurance policies cover common symptoms associated with Solar PV.

What should I do after installation?

  1. Receive your MCS Certificate
    1. Once we have installed your Package we will commission you a MCS installation certificate. This may take up to 30 days to arrive but we aim to register your certificate within 10 working days of the system being installed.
  2. Arrange a follow up EPC
    1. It is advised you update your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of your property to update its energy efficiency rating.
    2. An EPC is required if you wish to rent your property out in the UK or sell your home in Scotland.
